Like . . . a couple grand, at least. Over the course of months, Roberts hatched his plan to steal part of the moon. Eventually, he met and fell in love with an intern, Tiffany Fowler, who agreed to help him commit the celestial heist. So what sort of sophisticated Ocean's 11-style caper did they embark upon to snatch the precious space rocks? Did they need to steal security codes? Hack the surveillance cameras? Somersault in between security lasers?Ha ha, no! They just loaded the 600-pound safe onto a dolly and walked right out the goddamn door, presumably whistling nonchalantly the whole time. Brand X Pictures-Stockbyte-Getty Now, it's worth mentioning that Roberts was a little bit nuts. He admitted in an interview that, after making off with his prize, he took Fowler to a hotel room and put the moon rocks under the blankets so that they were "basically having sex on the moon. " We sort of get the appeal, but that still sounds uncomfortable as hell. Anyway, Roberts was eventually caught trying to sell his stash, valued at a staggering 21 million, to some undercover FBI agents. Because of course they were FBI agents. If you're advertising moon rocks for sale right after a historic theft of moon rocks, it doesn't take a super sleuth to deduce that they may in fact be the same moon rocks. He normally worked in a much smaller town that he was actually familiar with, but Oxford begged Smith to come help them instead, because they were crazy busy. She of course did nothing to verify these stories or identities before posting naked photos of strangers, and when questioned about the lives she was affecting, she insisted that women "love the attention. It was more about the contestants and the theory that appearing on the show gives you an unfair leg up in the music business. We actually talk about that a bit on the podcast, but in the course of talking to Brian Dunkleman, it became fairly obvious that the column shouldn't be about defending the contestants; it should be about defending him . Here's the thing: In the annals of pop culture history, Brian Dunkleman's decision to quit American Idol is cited as a totally self-inflicted Pete Best situation. But like we said, Khomeini did return, and his son made Fallaci promise not to bring up the chador thing. So, of course, she immediately did. And that's when the world stopped making sense, because at that moment Khomeini's normally stern and cruel visage cracked open and emitted a terrible raspy sound that onlookers would later come to realize was laughter. Entropa -- Brussels, BelgiumVia WikipediaEntropa was commissioned to celebrate the Czech Republic's 2009 presidency of the Council of the European Union. A joint effort of 27 international artists, the statue was comprised of several pieces, each designed to honor a specific EU country. The unveiling went exactly as European celebrations tend to go: Everyone yelled "Huzzah," twirled their mustaches, and waved their hats in unison. And then people started noticing the details. Everyone loves the classic gag where you offer someone a "Hertz Donut" and when they accept, punch them, because physical violence is the most acceptable way for heterosexual men to express their love for one another. But in regular, day-to-day goings-on, you hope for a little bit more consistency: I don't want to go to a bank to make a "withdrawal," only to find out that the word "bank" now means "experimental flesh-eating bacteria test-subject volunteer sign-up booth. My favorite horror story, though, involves Seacrest repeatedly and intentionally failing to read lines written for him on the teleprompter. These lines were intended to set up the lines that Dunkleman would deliver next, thus giving the impression that Dunkleman was the one fucking up, and he did it solely for the "entertainment" value of it all. It happened four times in one episode alone, and apparently shenanigans like this were standard operating procedure for Seacrest. Shockingly, though, aside from the part where he's haunted him ever since, it seems like Ryan Seacrest probably wasn't even the worst part of Dunkleman's year in reality singing competition hell. "This all started when we discovered that the stegosaurus and the big sauropods had swollen spinal cavities near the hips -- even larger than the space inside the cranium. So scientists theorized that these cavities were a braincase for a second, auxiliary brain. This "sacral brain" supposedly gave them the intelligence boost they needed to control the back half of their bodies, which is kind of like suggesting that putting a second steering wheel in the cargo hold of an 18-wheeler would make it drive better. Growing a whole separate brain just to shake what evolution gave ya isn't common practice in nature. A more sensible reason for these dinosaurs' enlarged ass cavities could be found by looking at birds: Birds have the same kind of spinal swelling, which stores up nutrient-rich deposits, and nowadays scientists think that these big-booty dinosaurs might've had the same junk in their trunks. Or maybe they used it to store weed in case they got pulled over, who knows -- it's just probably not a second brain.
